Fly-to-Ski to the Eiger Summit

With gliders and ski from Mönch to Eiger

THE TWO PRO FREERIDER JÉRÉMIE HEITZ AND SAM ANTHAMATTEN REALIZE TWO IMPRESSIVE SKI RUNS ON THE EIGER (3967 M) AND THE MÖNCH (4110M) IN ONE DAY. WHEN OTHER FREERIDERS GO UP BY HELICOPTER IN PERFECT SNOW CONDITIONS, JÉRÉMIE AND SAM USE THEIR PARAGLIDERS FOR THE ASCENT. AS THE LANDING AT THE SUMMIT OF THE EIGER IS CHALLENGING, THEY ENJOY THE DESCENT THROUGH THE UP TO 50° STEEP WESTERN FLANK ALL THE MORE. BUT THIS IS NOT THE END OF THE DAY.

The airy way to Eiger

Freeriding with a paraglider: just the right amount of adventure for the two Swiss extreme Freeriders Jérémie Heitz and Sam Anthamatten. The perfect snow and wind conditions at the end of April make the two friends choose the region around the Bernese Oberland triumvirate of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. They choose the very first train early in the morning to Jungfraujoch (3463 m). With the skis on their backs, they take on the two-hour ascent up the 4110 m high Mönch. The fresh snow turns out as a real challenge as they sink in up to their hips, tediously moving forward. Arriving at the Mönch summit, the perfectly snowed-in Eiger west flank with its 1700 meters of freeride descent already beckons. Wind check? Good. The Eiger is calling!

Endless adventure

The two athletes fly over to the Eiger. They land on their skis 60 m below the summit. The run down to the Eiger glacier station thrills them even more. Arriving at the station, their eyes are already wandering up the north flank of the Mönch. One look into the eyes of the other is enough, they're thinking exactly the same. A few minutes later they are back on the train heading for Jungfraujoch. They reach the line, which they had previously made out on the Mönch, from the Jungfraujoch again easily by paraglider. The second flight of the day goes again according to plan and they reach the entry of the targeted line. The snow conditions are even better here, thanks to the orientation to the north. Powder snow in April? Simply terrific!

Unlimited possibilities

Jérémie and Sam are among the world's most famous Freeriders. They have been shaping the scene for years with a new style of skiing steep walls at very high speed without interruption. In 2016, with the support of Sam, Jérémie mastered 15 of the steepest descents in the Alps. This resulted in the classic film La Liste. Later, they transferred this style to other steep faces in the Himalayas and the Andes. Today, Jérémie and Sam rely more and more on the paraglider, which literally gives wings to their career and completely redefines the limits of what is possible.

Jérémie Heitz

Jérémie Heitz is known as one of the fastest freeriders in the world. In 2016, the Swiss professional skier ticked off a list of the most famous steep face descents in the Alps, mostly from peaks over 4,000 meters. In "freeride style", he reached speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour in some cases. This was documented in the famous film "La Liste". In his most recent project "Everything or Nothing" he has transferred this style to steep walls in the Andes and the Himalayas and first climbed mountains over 6,000 meters high.
